The Boston Modern Orchestra Project will be in residency and perform a three-concert series at Wellesley College during the 2010-11 academic year. Throughout the residency musicians from the orchestra will work with student composers, performers, and music historians from Wellesley’s music department; concerts are scheduled to take place in December, January, and April. The opening concert on December 11 will feature works by Chen Yi and a world premiere by Jenny Olivia Johnson from Wellesley’s music department. Composers with works scheduled for the remaining two concerts include Wayne Peterson, Milton Babbitt, and Wellesley Professor of Music Martin Brody; music by composers from Bang on a Can—the contemporary-music commissioning, performing, and presenting organization—will also be performed. “We’re very excited to have BMOP on the roster for the 2010-2011 Concert Series, which has established itself as a home for new music in the greater Boston Area” said Wellesley College Music Department Chair Marion Dry. “It’s a real coup for Wellesley.”
