“The search is on,” writes Doug Pullen in Tuesday’s (9/21) El Paso Times (Texas). “About 100 résumés have been submitted so far for the El Paso Symphony Orchestra’s conductor and music director position, according to Ruth Ellen Jacobson, its executive director. … Current conductor and music director Sarah Ioannides announced that she will leave the orchestra at the end of the 2010-2011 season, her sixth with EPSO. … The position is being advertised on various classical musicians’ and conductor’s websites and the League of American Orchestras, Jacobson said. ‘We put a deadline of the end of September, but the musicians are encouraging us to extend it, so we probably will,’ Jacobson said. … A 12-member search committee was formed two weeks ago, she said. It is composed of six board members and six orchestra members. The panel will narrow the field down to six candidates, who will be asked to select and conduct one program each during the 2011-2012 season. A conductor will be chosen from among those finalists, Jacobson said.”
