ALAIR TOWNSEND has been named chairman of the Board of Governors for City Center of Music and Drama Inc., the managing organization for Lincoln Center’s David H. Koch Theater, home of New York City Ballet and New York City Opera. She succeeds MARTIN OPPENHEIMER, who held the position for 26 years. Townsend served as publisher of Crain’s New York Business for eighteen years and continues as a columnist for that publication. She has held numerous government posts, including deputy mayor of New York for finance and economic development; associate director of the Budget Committee for the U.S. House of Representatives; assistant secretary for management and budget at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services; and staff director for the Subcommittee on Fiscal Policy of the Joint Economic Committee of Congress.
