LORIS TJEKNAVORIAN has been appointed principal conductor and music director of the Glendale Symphony Orchestra in California, a post he had held on a temporary basis since August. The Iranian-born Tjeknavorian led the Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra from 1989 through 2000, and he has conducted such European ensembles as the London Symphony Orchestra and the Vienna Symphony. He recently received the Austrian Presidential Gold Medal in recognition of his artistic achievement.
