In Monday’s (10/4) San Jose Mercury News (California), Heather Zimmerman writes, “The Mission Chamber Orchestra joins the Italian American Heritage Foundation to get the party started on not one, but two, anniversary celebrations. The orchestra marks its 15th anniversary with the 2010-11 season, and the foundation is looking to the upcoming 150th anniversary of the founding of modern Italy. To celebrate, the Mission Chamber Orchestra presents a concert, Oct. 9, 6 p.m. at the Italian American Heritage Foundation, 425 S. Fourth St., San Jose. … Horn player Brian Holmes will be the soloist for Donizetti’s concerto for horn and string orchestra, and a concerto grosso by Vivaldi will feature violinists Cathie Lowmiller and Geoff Nore, the orchestra’s concertmaster. … The concert also includes a contemporary piece by an Italian American composer. Napa-based composer Louise Canepa’s ‘Nostalgia,’ originally written for piano but arranged for chamber orchestra, will be performed. The inclusion of Canepa’s piece reflects an ongoing emphasis on living composers and contemporary music in the Mission Chamber Orchestra’s programming—something that can definitely be counted among the orchestra’s proudest accomplishments in its 15 years.”
