Apollo’s Fire, the Ohio-based baroque orchestra, is conducting a national tour in October in honor of the 400th anniversary of Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610, a 90-minute work for soloists, chorus, and orchestra that is a signature piece for the ensemble. The tour, which follows the September 14 release of its recording of the Monteverdi work on the Avie label, runs from October 5 to 19 and includes performances in Ithaca, New York; State College, Pennsylvania; St. Louis, Missouri; Santa Fe, New Mexico; and six Ohio cities (Willoughby, Toledo, Akron, Shaker Heights, Rocky River, Columbus). In Cleveland just prior to the tour, the ensemble presented “The Monteverdi Experience,” a weekend of Vespers performances, lectures, masterclasses, a chamber recital, open rehearsal, and period dance workshop. Apollo’s Fire was founded in 1992 by Jeannette Sorrell, its current music director.
