In Thursday’s (10/14) Columbus Dispatch (Ohio), Bill Mayr writes, “When the Central Ohio Symphony [opens its season] Saturday, it will inaugurate an effort to highlight composers with Ohio ties. The Jason Bahr composition Ad Astra per Aspera will be performed as part of the Ohio Composers Project. Bahr taught at Ohio Wesleyan University before accepting a music-faculty post during the summer at Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers. … The composers project will complement the orchestra’s Ohio Guest Artist Project, which showcases Buckeye State musicians as soloists. Jesus Morales-Matos, principal cellist of the Philadelphia Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra, will be featured Saturday in Saint-Saens’ Cello Concerto No. 1.”
