The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra has announced the promotion of SANDY SMITH to vice president for development, effective October 18. She was previously the orchestra’s interim vice president for institutional advancement and learning, a post she had held since May 2010. As VP for development she succeeds PAUL HOGLE, who left the ASO last May to become executive vice president of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. Smith joined the ASO staff in June 2009 as senior director of institutional support and partnerships. Prior posts include associate director of planned giving at the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra; associate director of the Orchestra Leadership Academy administered by the League of American Orchestras; manager of a volunteer group at Opera Theatre of Saint Louis; and posts in public relations and development at the Saint Louis Symphony. She holds an artist diploma in voice from the Saint Louis Conservatory, and began her career as a professional singer.
