Sunday’s (10/31) Island Packet (Hilton Head, North Carolina) reports, “The Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra has formed a search committee to review applicants and make a recommendation to the board of directors for the position of music director beginning with the 2012-13 orchestra season. During the 2010 season, applications will be accepted until Dec. 15. The committee will narrow the field to the top 20 to 30 candidates in early February. By March 30, the field will be narrowed to five candidates who will perform with the orchestra during the 2011-2012 season. The orchestra has already received several applications. … The new music director will be named at the end of March 2012 and will begin his or her position in July 2012. There will be opportunities for audience members, subscribers and musicians to provide input and comments on each of the candidates following their performance with the orchestra. Concertmaster Terry Moore will serve as the artistic adviser for the 2011-12 season.” The orchestra’s board recently decided not to extend the contract of longtime music director and conductor Mary Woodmansee Green beyond June.
