North Carolina’s Winston-Salem Symphony has appointed SHEILA M. VIRGIL to the newly created post of vice president of patron and institutional advancement. She has nearly 20 years of experience in fundraising, executive management, and consulting in the nonprofit sector, including eight years with The Cleveland Orchestra where she served as associate director of development and manager of foundation and corporate support. As a consultant she has worked with Opera Omaha, Omaha Performing Arts, and the Nebraska Children’s Home Society. Since moving to Winston-Salem from Omaha in 2008 Virgil has managed projects for Wake Forest University and for Salem College, where she is an adjunct faculty member in the Not-for-Profit Management Program. She also served for two years on the Winston-Salem Symphony’s Development Committee. Virgil holds a bachelor’s degree from St. John’s College and a Master of Nonprofit Organizations degree from the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University.
