An Associated Press report posted Friday (11/5) on the New York Times online states, “Striking members of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra have resumed informal discussions with management. The two sides said in separate statements Friday that the talks are aimed at ending the work stoppage that began Oct. 4. They said a scheduled musicians’ picket in front of Orchestra Hall also has been canceled. Both sides have agreed to a media blackout while discussions continue. Messages seeking comment were left with musicians’ spokesman Haden McKay. DSO spokeswoman Elizabeth Twork declined further comment. Management of the financially struggling orchestra implemented a 33 percent base pay cut in the first year of the new contract. Musicians had offered a 22 percent reduction.”
