Thursday’s (11/4) Winnipeg Free Press (Canada) reports, “The Manitoba Conservatory of Music & Arts announced Wednesday that Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra music director Alexander Mickelthwate will teach conducting to its music students. ‘We are thrilled that Alexander is joining our faculty,’ dean of music Meran Currie-Roberts said in a release from MCMA. ‘It speaks to the growth of the MCMA, and is an excellent opportunity for our students to study with a musician of an international reputation.’ Mickelthwate has taught aspiring conductors in several genres, including orchestral, band and choral music. ‘I simply love to teach and can’t wait to get started … and share my experiences and knowledge about the most exciting profession out there—conducting,’ Mickelthwate said.”
