Thursday’s (12/9) Herald-Mail (Hagerstown, Maryland) reports, “April L. Dowler of Williamsport has been appointed interim executive director of the Maryland Symphony Orchestra. Dowler served as president of the MSO’s board of directors from July 2007 to June 2009 and has been a member of the MSO’s executive committee since 2003. A search is under way for an executive director to replace Andrew Kipe, who resigned in November to become general manager of The Phoenix Symphony. The search committee hopes to have an executive director in place by July 1. ‘April was chosen to lead during this time of transition because of her extensive knowledge of the day-to-day operation of the organization,’ MSO Vice President Dori Nipps said in a news release. ‘Having April at the helm during the search process will ensure that the activities of the MSO will continue as planned for the remainder of the season.’ ”
