South Carolina’s Charleston Symphony Orchestra has appointed Daniel Beckley as executive director, effective immediately. Beckley will oversee all aspects of management and operations, as well as implementation of strategic goals, for the newly restructured organization, which had suspended operations during the past year. Board President Ted Legasey commented, “Danny has been part of the Symphony team for five years as both a member of the Board of Directors (18 months) assisting on the most recent labor negotiations committee as well as the development and artistic committees, and as a guest bass trombonist performing at our concerts. Through his experience, he has developed a sound understanding of the intricacies of our operating model and passionately appreciates the end product—the beautiful music performed by our professional musicians.” CSO bass trombonist Tom Joyce added, “Musician representatives worked with the Board last year on an extensive search for an Executive Director. We were looking for an entrepreneurial leader with executive experience who demonstrated passion, energy and enthusiasm for classical music as well as an ability to communicate this enthusiasm knowledgably and credibly. In Danny, I am confident that we have found that person.” Beckley comes from the Charleston-based web design and Internet marketing firm BlueKey Web Solutions, where he helped lead growth and expansion. A classical bass trombonist and music teacher, Beckley holds a Masters in Music Performance from Northwestern University and a Bachelors in Music Education from James Madison University.
