Arizona’s Tucson Symphony Orchestra has announced the appointment of GEORGE STEELE as interim executive director. In assuming the new post he steps down from his board position at the Tucson Symphony Society, where he has served since 1983. Steele spent 33 years with Valley National Corporation, an Arizona banking institution that was acquired in the mid-1990s by Bank One and subsequently by Chase. He has filled a wide range of roles with the Tucson Symphony Society including president (1994-96), treasurer, governing trustee, advisory trustee, and member of the Finance Committee and the Committee on Trusteeship. Steele is currently a board member of the Marshall Foundation and serves on the Community Advisory Board of Arizona Public Media.
