In Tuesday’s (1/11) Contra Costa Times (California), Michel Nolan writes, “Valerie Peister took over as the San Bernardino Symphony’s executive director on Monday. ‘We are delighted to welcome Valerie to the San Bernardino Symphony family,’ said board symphony President Mary Schnepp. ‘We think she will be a great asset to the community and bring an enthusiastic vitality to the orchestra.’ Peister succeeds former Executive Director Carlotta Mellon, who retired in August, in the salaried position. Peister said she couldn’t be more thrilled to join the symphony. ‘It is an organization with an incredibly dedicated and forward-thinking volunteer base,’ she said. ‘I very much look forward to working with the symphony to continue its commitment to touching lives through excellence.’ … She has worked extensively with the Redlands Community Music Association and Associates of the Redlands Bowl, as well as the Bonnes Meres Auxiliary of the Children’s Fund. … Schnepp said the symphony was pleased to find someone who was an area resident and believed in the community. The symphony, now in its 82nd season, is the oldest symphony orchestra in the Inland Empire. Music director is Maestro Carlo Ponti Jr.”
