An Associated Press report published in Friday’s (1/14) Myrtle Beach Sun-News states, “The Charleston Symphony Orchestra is opening its traditional Masterworks Series of Concerts after surviving financial problems for the better part of a year. The series opens Friday at the Gaillard Municipal Auditorium under the baton of guest conductor Glen Cortese. The program features compositions by Johannes Brahms and Richard Strauss. In November, symphony musicians agreed to a contract that trimmed the size of the ensemble. There are now 24 full-time musicians. The orchestra had ceased full-time operations last March because of money problems. But last fall, the symphony staged a 75th anniversary concert that generated a profit of $20,000.”
