The League has been notified of the death of theatre consultant David Taylor, who served as global head of theatre consulting for Arup. He was 48. Taylor had previously worked for Theatre Projects Consultants in the UK and US. Taylor was a principal in the performing arts sector for Arup, and had worked for more than two decades on theater planning and design projects including new homes for the Seattle Symphony and the Philadelphia Orchestra, among others. Most recently, Taylor was involved with the new home of the New World Symphony, designed by Frank Gehry, in Miami Beach; the complex, which houses a concert hall, rehearsal studios, offices, public spaces, and gardens, opens next week. A spokesperson for Arup commented: “It is with the greatest sadness that Arup advises the passing away of Mr. David I. Taylor. … David was a major and much-loved international name in the theatre business, as an exceptional forward thinker and designer for the performing arts, theatre planner, technical systems consultant and active stage lighting designer. David will be irreplaceable to Arup and to the theatre design industry, but most to his family, to whom we extend our deepest sympathy.”
