Mezzo-soprano and conductor ERICA WASHBURN has been named director of choral activities at Boston’s New England Conservatory after serving as interim director since fall 2009. Prior to NEC she was a voice instructor at Houghton College’s Greatbatch School of Music (Houghton, N.Y.) and director of both the Camerata Singers and the Women’s Choir at Houghton College. In addition to performing in operatic and concert productions as a vocalist, Washburn has also taught, lectured, or conducted at the New York State Summer School of the Arts, East Carolina University, and William Jewel College, among other institutions. She holds a bachelor’s degree in music education from Westminster Choir College (Princeton, N.J.) and a master’s in vocal performance from East Carolina University. Washburn is currently pursuing a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Vocal Performance and Literature from the Eastman School of Music.
