Monday’s (1/24) Virginia Gazette (Williamsburg) reports, “The College of William & Mary and the Virginia Symphony Orchestra have partnered together for a series of classical performances by the orchestra at Phi Beta Kappa Hall. The four-concert series will begin in October and feature ‘Jefferson in his Own Words,’ a commissioned work by University of Virginia composer Judith Shatin. The piece is for narrator and orchestra. The October concert will also include Beethoven’s Violin Concerto performed by Virginia Symphony Orchestra concert master Vahn Armstrong. The remaining three concerts will be held in December, February and March. The December concert will include a performance of Handel’s Messiah. The February Concert will feature works by Mozart and Dvorak and the final concert in March will include a performance of Mozart’s Coronation Mass. Subscriptions to the four-concert series are on sale now and range from $69-$165. William & Mary students may purchase tickets for $10 at the box office the evening of the concert with a student ID. A 15% discount will be offered to faculty and staff of the college.”
