Artistic: San Francisco Contemporary Music Players

Percussionist, conductor, and educator STEVEN SCHICK has been named artistic director of the San Francisco Contemporary Music Players. Schick is artistic director and founder of the percussion group red fish blue fish. Since 2007 he has served as music director and conductor of California’s La Jolla Symphony and Chorus, and is also Distinguished Professor of Music at the University of California-San Diego and a consulting artist in percussion at the Manhattan School of Music. From 1992 to 2002 Schick was the percussionist for New York City’s Bang on a Can All-Stars, and was artistic director of Switzerland’s Centre International de Percussion de Genève from 2000 to 2004. He is a native Iowan and a graduate of the University of Iowa.
