The New York-based nonprofit management firm Young Concert Artists will celebrate its 50th year in existence with a concert featuring current and former members of the YCA roster at New York City’s Symphony Space on February 19. At the event, which will last from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., close to 100 former YCA winners will perform everything from Bach and Bartók to Penderecki and Takemitsu. Among those scheduled to perform are Emanuel Ax, the Borromeo String Quartet, Sasha Cooke, Ani and Ida Kavafian, Ursula Oppens, Jose Franch-Ballester, and Nokuthula Ngwenyama. Four YCA alumni will each host a three-hour segment of the marathon: Eugenia Zukerman, Mary Beth Peil, Jeremy Denk, and Christopher O’Riley. Young Concert Artists has been celebrating its 50th anniversary throughout the 2010-11 season; on February 23 YCA artists and alumni will perform live from the Greene Space at radio station WQXR in Manhattan, to be broadcast later on the McGraw-Hill Companies Young Artists Showcase program. On March 29 YCA will present a gala concert at the Rose Theater at Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York, with Pinchas Zukerman (YCA 1966) conducting and performing with the Orchestra of St. Luke’s and sixteen YCA soloists.
