The long-running “Young Artists Showcase” radio series on WQXR recently devoted an entire episode to Symphony magazine’s current issue, which focuses on emerging classical musicians. In his Symphony feature article “Voices of Change,” Assistant Editor Ian VanderMeulen interviews six young artists about their perspectives on the orchestra world, adventurous concert programming, and how they engage with audiences in the age of Twitter and Facebook. The issue also carries paid listings of emerging soloists, conductors, and ensembles. On the “Young Artists Showcase,” host Robert Sherman said, “This week, we take a special look at some of the past stars of the show who have just been named among ‘the most exciting emerging classical musicians of 2011’ in the winter issue of Symphony magazine,” and aired recorded performances by young musicians who have appeared recently on his show and who also are featured in Symphony. The program, which draws 800,000 listeners each week, was broadcast on WQXR on Wednesday, February 2, and can be heard online at WQXR’s website.
