This week the National Endowment for the Arts released its new analysis of data collected by the 2008 Survey of Public Participation in the Arts, revealing that nearly 75 percent of American adults participate in the arts, when participation in electronic media and personal arts creation are factored in. The NEA analysis reveals that there is a strong relationship between arts attendance and creation; that age is statistically significant but generally is a weak predictor of arts participation; and that childhood arts education has a potentially stronger effect on arts attendance than age, race, or socioeconomic status.
