Cleveland Orchestra Music Director Franz Welser-Möst has appointed GIANCARLO GUERRERO to the new position of principal guest conductor for the orchestra’s annual residency in Miami, Florida. Guerrero’s three-year appointment begins with the orchestra’s sixth Miami residency season, 2011-12. He will program and conduct subscription concerts and special events, guide artistic planning for the residency, participate in collaborations with Miami partner institutions, and plan education and community engagement programs. Guerrero has served as music director of the Nashville Symphony since 2009 and will continue in that post. His relationship with The Cleveland Orchestra dates to 2006, when he made his conducting debut with that orchestra and was re-engaged for concerts both in Cleveland’s Severance Hall and for the orchestra’s Miami Residency performances at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts. In July 2008 he led The Cleveland Orchestra in a free outdoor community concert in downtown Cleveland. That summer, and again in 2009, he conducted the orchestra at Blossom Music Center, its summer home in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.
