A report in Friday’s (3/4) Detroit Free Press states, “As representatives for the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and striking musicians continued discussions Thursday of a union offer to resume work, musicians in five other cities announced a show of support for their Detroit colleagues. The American Federation of Musicians said players from orchestras in New York, Boston, Denver, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C., will don navy blue bracelets reading ‘AFM Solidarity’ during performances this weekend. … [Detroit Symphony] musicians have said they will return to the stage—operating under management’s latest offer—if a binding arbitration panel is formed to work out unresolved issues. … Another orchestra is offering support of another kind next week when the DSO’s music director gets to town. The Nashville Symphony musicians, with management’s blessing, plan to insert a flyer in the program for three nights of performances beginning March 10 that feature conductor Leonard Slatkin. The flyer is expected to inform patrons about the Detroit musicians’ proposal to return, ask them to check out Web sites representing all sides in the dispute and encourage them to lend their voices to ‘try and find a way to keep symphony music alive in Detroit,’ said Laura Ross, Nashville Symphony’s union steward and a metro Detroit native.”
