Following a March 29 afternoon dedication and unveiling ceremony hosted by the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Los Angeles City Council President Pro Tempore Jan Perry, the intersection of First Street and Grand Avenue in front of Walt Disney Concert Hall will be known as Ernest Fleischmann Square. The site is named for Ernest Fleischmann, the LA Phil’s longtime managing director, who passed away on June 13, 2010 at the age of 85. The orchestra will perform a free Fleischmann tribute concert at Disney Concert Hall the same evening, with LA Phil Conductor Laureate Esa-Pekka Salonen, composer Pierre Boulez, LA Phil Associate Conductor Lionel Bringuier, the Los Angeles Philharmonic New Music Group, and the Los Angeles Children’s Chorus. The tribute program will feature works will include Boulez’s Sur Incises, Salonen’s Dona Nobis Pacem (U.S. premiere), Franco Donatoni’s Arpeges, and Stravinsky’s Renard.
