In Thursday’s (3/31) Wall Street Journal, Stuart Isacoff writes, “On a Sunday morning in the dark, cavernous basement of the Greenwich Village club (Le) Poisson Rouge, the sounds of bowed strings and bellowing horns are mixed with giggles, chatter and an occasional wail. … It’s a ‘Baby Got Bach’ event. … The fledgling music series, the next installment of which will take place on Sunday, April 3, at 11 a.m., was the brainchild of executive director Gail Wein and artistic director Orli Shaham, a pianist of note and the mother of 3½-year-old twin boys. The combination of music and motherhood gave impetus to this new musical offering to New Yorkers. ‘There are lots of “mommy and me” programs for infants and their mothers,’ explains Ms. Shaham, ‘and programs for elementary-school students. But none for the 3-to-6-year-olds, even though this age is a key time to develop lifelong loves and skills. It’s the best moment to pick up a second language, and music is exactly that. If you learn it at that age, it will stay with you forever.’ ”
