In Saturday’s (4/2) Patriot-News (Harrisburg, Pennsylvania), David N. Dunkle reports, “Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra officials have reached a tentative agreement on a five-year deal with the orchestra’s musicians. HSO executive director Jeff Woodruff said details of the contract will not be released until the proposed deal is ratified by the orchestra board of directors and members of Local 269 of the American Federation of Musicians, which represents HSO’s players. The board’s next meeting is scheduled for April 27. Union members will receive mailed ballots regarding the deal. … That deal included increases averaging 3 percent to 4 percent for base pay for rehearsals and concerts, per diem allowances, cartage fees for instruments and pension contributions. A new provision, according to HSO officials, was payment of hotel and meal costs for out-of-town musicians forced to stay extra days in Harrisburg due to inclement weather. HSO music director Stuart Malina said he was very pleased to hear that a tentative deal had been reached. … Darryl Hartshorne, an HSO bassoonist who co-chairs the committee that represented the musicians in negotiations, said he believes the contract will be ratified by members.”
