In Friday’s (4/8) Ottawa Citizen (Canada), Steve Mazey writes, “Several National Arts Centre Orchestra musicians, including trumpeter Karen Donnelly, concertmaster Yosuke Kawasaki, cellist Leah Wyber and violist Nancy Sturdevant, will perform a fundraising concert Sunday April 10 to support bursaries for Ottawa-area student musicians. The concert in the NAC Salon will support the annual NAC Orchestra Bursary Competition, which presents awards to assist Ottawa-area music students who are preparing for professional careers. The musicians of the orchestra established the bursary in 1979 to mark the orchestra’s 10th anniversary and thank audiences for their support. … The April 10 fundraising concert will include a performance by harpist Robin Best, who won the top prize of $7,000 at the 2010 NAC Orchestra Bursary. Best will perform Hindemith’s Harp Sonata and will join NACO musicians for Ravel’s Introduction and Allegro for harp, strings, flute and clarinet. Other musicians include Kawasaki, Sturdevant, Wyber, violinist Mark Friedman, clarinetist Kimball Sykes and flutist Camille Churchfield. Other pieces in the concert will be Mozart’s Flute Quartet No. 1 in D major and Ewald’s Brass Quintet No. 1 in B-flat minor.”
