The Winston-Salem Symphony in North Carolina will head to Raleigh on April 12 for Arts Day 2011, a legislative and professional development event produced by Arts North Carolina, North Carolina’s statewide arts advocacy organization. Seventeen representatives from the orchestra will travel to Raleigh with other arts groups from Forsyth County to meet with state senators and representatives to advocate for preservation of state funding for the North Carolina Arts Council and convey the vital importance of the arts to the region. Among those representing the orchestra will be five members of the board of directors and advisory council, including Board Chair-elect Michael Rogers; four musicians from the orchestra and Symphony Chorale; five members of the Encore Society volunteer group; and three staff members, including President and CEO Merritt Vale. “Arts Day is an important opportunity for supporters of our region’s arts industry to communicate the breadth and depth of this industry’s impact to the economic well-being of our communities to our state’s elected officials,” said Vale in a statement.
