The Solti Foundation has announced recipients of its 2011 Solti Fellow and Career Assistance Awards for conductors. The Sir Georg Solti Conducting Award of $25,000 (also known as the Solti Fellow) has been awarded to Case Scaglione, a Texas native who is currently music director of the Young Musicians Foundation Debut Orchestra of Los Angeles. Ankush Kkumar Bahl, who was recently appointed assistant conductor of the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, D.C., was awarded a Career Assistance Award of $5,000. Two conductors received Career Assistance Awards of $3,500: Sean Newhouse, currently an assistant conductor at the Boston Symphony Orchestra; and Ward Stare, currently resident conductor of the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra and music director of the Saint Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra. The Solti Conducting Award, given biennially to an American conductor 38 years of age or younger, is dispensed over a 24-month period and meant to be used for career training. Career Assistance Awards are one-year grants that vary in amount and number granted per year.
