The University of Missouri School of Music has announced that winning compositions by K-12 students from across Missouri will be performed on April 23 from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the sixth annual Creating Original Music Project (C.O.M.P.) Festival. C.O.M.P. http://music.missouri.edu/COMP/ is one part of the Mizzou New Music Initiative, a joint venture of the University of Missouri School of Music and the Sinquefield Charitable Foundation, which provides an annual gift of $50,000 to sponsor the competition. For the competition, student composers write original works and hear them performed; their music programs receive cash prizes, and the high-school winners receive a scholarship to attend the Mizzou New Music Initiative’s summer music-composition camp at the University of Missouri campus in Columbia. Among the composition categories are songs with words, instrumental, popular, jazz, sacred, and folk.
