“The Fox Valley Symphony is in need of a new leader,” Thursday’s (4/21) Post-Crescent (Appleton, Wisconsin) reports. “Marta Weldon, executive director of the Fox Valley Symphony Orchestra Association for the past seven years, is leaving to become director of development for the Wisconsin Foundation for School Music in Waunakee at the end of May. Phil Snyder, president of the symphony’s board of directors, made the announcement Wednesday. … Weldon oversaw the symphony during a span in which it delved into multimedia productions (‘Ellis Island: The Dream of America’), launched a world premiere (‘Quiet Heroes: A Symphony Salute to the Flag-raisers at Iwo Jima’), drew guest artists of the caliber of Michael Kim, Philippe Quint and Garrison Keillor, tipped its musical hat to baseball and brought numerous Fox Valley arts organizations together for an extravagant production of ‘Carmen.’ Snyder said the board of directors has initiated a national search for Weldon’s replacement and expects to name a new executive director by mid-summer.”
