California’s Santa Barbara Symphony has announced the appointment of DAVID GROSSMAN as executive director, effective May 9. He succeeds JOHN ROBINSON, who stepped down from that post last year to relocate to San Francisco. Grossman served most recently as vice president of The Recording Academy, sponsor of the Grammy Awards. Prior to that he was senior vice president of television music for Paramount Pictures. Also a professional musician, Grossman studied at the Eastman School of Music and Boston’s Berklee College of Music, earning a bachelor’s degree in composition and a Distinguished Alumnus Award from the latter.  Prior to obtaining a master’s degree from Pepperdine University in Southern California he was a professional drummer, in which capacity he performed for numerous film scores, television shows, recordings, and pit orchestras.
