Tuesday (4/25) on the KYTX CBS Channel 19 website (Tyler, Texas), Amanda Roberson reports, “After a year long national search, [on] Monday the East Texas Symphony Orchestra announced the names of the five finalists for music director and conductor. After sorting through more than 150 applications, the five finalists come from across the country. Each candidate will conduct a concert during the orchestra’s 2011-2012 season. ‘We’re looking for the person who has the enthusiasm, the interest, the creativity and not only in our formal performances but also in our small ensembles at Liberty Hall,’ explained ETSO Executive Director Nancy Wrenn. ‘And how we can connect up close and comfortable with audiences in small venue as well as large and have this conductor be a part of the community.’ The East Texas community will get to have a say in who the next conductor will be. Symphony-goers will get to vote for their favorite conductor after the five finalist perform next season.”
