The Oklahoma City Philharmonic announced that it has been awarded $50,000 from the Hearst Foundation for its eight free annual youth concerts for elementary-school students in Oklahoma City and communities in 25 counties throughout Oklahoma. The grant follows a 2010 grant from the Robert Glenn Rapp Foundation, which supports the youth concerts through an endowment fund held at the Oklahoma City Philharmonic Foundation. The endowment fund supports pre-concert classroom activities by teachers, as well as concert expenses of personnel, music rentals, and facility charges. The Philharmonic Youth Concerts at the Civic Center Music Hall in Oklahoma City are led by Matthew Troy, the Philharmonic’s education conductor.
