In Saturday’s (4/30) Dallas Morning News, Scott Cantrell writes, “After only a month as part-time president and CEO of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Bill Lively announced Friday that he’s stepping down immediately for health reasons. He was due to take over full time June 1. This throws the organization in turmoil even as the orchestra is reaching new artistic heights under music director Jaap van Zweden, including an upcoming concert at New York’s Carnegie Hall. After two brothers had suffered strokes in recent years, Lively, well-known as a hard-driving workaholic, said he had become concerned by ‘enormous headaches,’ chest pains and weight loss. He has been winding down his tenure as president and CEO of the North Texas Super Bowl XLV Host Committee, and he expects to end that commitment at the end of May. While physicians found no obvious causes, Lively said they told him he needed to take it easy. … Lively, van Zweden and DSO board vice chairwoman Cece Smith all said the resignation was purely about health problems, not any internal discord. … Smith said that the board would look for an interim president and CEO and begin the search for a permanent successor.” A subscription is required to read the whole story at the link above.
