In Friday’s (5/27) Vancouver Sun, Janet Steffenhagen writes, “A state-of-the-art music school once described as Bramwell Tovey’s dream will begin providing classes to aspiring musicians of all ages and abilities this fall in downtown Vancouver. Tovey, longtime music director of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, wasn’t available to comment Thursday, but is expected to attend an announcement today that the school will open in August, with registrations beginning immediately for classes in the fall. The VSO School of Music, which has been in development for several years, will offer private and group lessons, classes and programs year-round in a 25,000-square-foot facility adjacent to the Orpheum Theatre. It will occupy the first four floors of the 43-storey condominium called the Capitol Residences, located on the former Capitol Six theatre site. … The building includes 18 acoustically structured instruction rooms, two classrooms, a two-storey ensemble room, computer listening stations, practice rooms, a gift shop and a café. Designed by Bingham Hill Architects, it also has an acoustically isolated 120-seat recital hall with recording and distance-learning capabilities.”
