The Virginia Symphony Orchestra has announced that it will perform four free outdoor concerts this summer at 31Ocean, a beachfront shopping, restaurant, and entertainment complex in Virginia Beach. The concerts—on June 16, July 14, August 11, and September 21—will include programs devoted to film scores, music honoring men and women in uniform, music from Disney films, and a “Symphonic Fireworks” concert. Leading the concerts are VSO Staff  Conductor Robert Shoup (June 16) and VSO Associate Conductor Benjamin Rous (July 14, August 11, September 21). The four VSO concerts are part of a six-concert series this summer known as VSOCEAN: Symphony by the Sea, which also includes performances by Symphonicity (formerly known as the Virginia Beach Symphony Orchestra) and the concert band Tidewater Winds. The Virginia Symphony Orchestra, under Music Director JoAnn Falletta, performs classics and pops concerts throughout the year in venues in Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Newport News, and Williamsburg.
