The Charlotte (N.C.) Symphony has announced that JACOMO BAIROS, now completing his first season as assistant conductor, has been promoted to associate conductor beginning in 2011-12. The new title reflects his growing role in the orchestra’s upcoming season, when he will conduct concerts in the Lollipops, KnightSounds, and Pops series as well as community and educational programs. In addition to his current duties in Charlotte, Bairos is a cover conductor for the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, and from 2007 to 2010 served as cover conductor with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. He directed the 2010 National Youth Orchestra Festival of Portugal and has worked extensively with other educational programs including the Baltimore Symphony’s OrchKids. Bairos studied conducting with Gustav Meier at the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University, and his teachers have also included Marin Alsop, Robert Spano, Markand Thakar, Jorma Panula, Murry Sidlin, Larry Rachleff, and Hugh Wolff.
