In Friday’s (6/10) Sacramento Bee (California), Edward Ortiz writes, “In an unexpected move, the Sacramento Philharmonic has decided to part ways with its Executive Director Marc Feldman. Feldman, 50, had led the orchestra since 2007. He would not comment on the orchestra’s decision. Sacramento Philharmonic Board President David K. Nystrom issued an email statement that Feldman had resigned effective June 9, 2011. ‘Marc has made a large contribution to the Sacramento arts community during his four and one-half year tenure as Executive Director of the Philharmonic,’ said Nystrom. An official announcement from the orchestra is expected Monday, Nystrom said. … A native New Yorker, Feldman put his stamp on the orchestra with a ‘Songs of Hope’ concert in spring 2008. The concert revealed Feldman’s fondness for crossing international and political boundaries with concert programming. That much became clear when the orchestra presented a program where Palestinian and Israeli musicians shared the same stage under the direction of Egyptian guest conductor Nader Abbassi and [Music Director Michael] Morgan.”
