Le Poisson Rouge, the “multimedia art cabaret” based in New York’s Greenwich Village, is celebrating its third year by hosting a variety of performances from June 12 to 18, many of which are being streamed in high definition at Concert Window. The week began on June 12 with pianist Orli Shaham leading two family programs of “Baby Got Bach: Classical Kids,” and Ensemble ACJW—a collective of young professionals from a joint program run by Carnegie Hall, The Juilliard School, and the Weill Music Institute—performing music of Radiohead, Bartók, Britten, Bettison, Pink Floyd, and Vienna Teng. Other events during the anniversary week include performances by Juilliard-trained vocalist Christina Courtin and the string quartet Brooklyn Rider, and performers such as Best Coast, Bardo Pond, Laetitia Sadier of Stereolab, White Out with Thurston Moore; and Metal Mountains. Le Poisson Rouge co-founders David Handler and Justin Kantor were awarded ASCAP’s Victor Herbert Award in May for their commitment to adventurous programming, and this spring LPR also received an award from the Greenwich Village Society for Historical Preservation for their contribution to culture and life in the neighborhood.
