Symphony in C, based in Camden, New Jersey, has announced the appointment of JOSEPH HART as director of education and community engagement, and of KAREN SERFASS as vice president of development. Hart, who began his duties on June 1, has taught music in both public and private schools in Pennsylvania and New Jersey; as a private trumpet and guitar instructor; and as a teaching artist with Tune Up Philly in conjunction with the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra. A founder of the West End Brass Quintet, he holds a bachelor’s degree in music with a concentration in music education from Rutgers University’s Mason Gross School of the Arts and a master’s in trumpet performance from the Hartt School of Music at the University of Hartford. Serfass, who begins as VP for development on June 20, has worked in the fields of development and communications for more than fifteen years. She has contributed articles to the Philadelphia Inquirer and published several short stories and poems. Serfass holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Temple University and recently completed a master’s degree in English from Arcadia University.
