Wednesday (6/15) on The Oregonian online (Portland), Elliot Njus reports, “A series of benefit concerts for the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra brought in $13,247 over the weekend. With other donations, that carries the group to one-third of its goal to raise $100,000 by the end of the month. The symphony announced last week it had to raise the $100,000 or it would have to forgo its 33rd season. Donations have slowed over the past three years, symphony leaders said. Even with the funding boost, the symphony is cutting most of its administrative staff and might have to play a shorter season or smaller performances. Several of the group’s musicians and other supporters held four free performances at Trinity Lutheran Church over the weekend. The amount they raised in donations was more than double the goal, the symphony said in a news release.”
