Thursday (6/16) on The Guardian’s London 2012 Blog, Mark Brown writes, “The BBC today announces a central plank in its contribution to the Cultural Olympiad—an enormous celebration of orchestral and other live music across the UK culminating with a weekend of activities on 3 and 4 March 2012. The project is called Music Nation and follows the recent announcement of a Radio 1 weekend for 100,000 people in Hackney. The latter event is aimed at the Olympic boroughs while Music Nation will be staging events across the UK from Shetland to Cornwall. Roger Mosey, who is the BBC’s director of London 2012, said it was a geographically ambitious project. ‘It is an attempt to have great music making across the UK that weekend—as near to as many people as possible.’ ” A few of the performers Belfast-based Ulster Orchestra, Dublin-based RTE Concert Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, and Royal Scottish National Orchestra.
