LEE MILLS has been selected as the third recipient of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra-Peabody Conducting Fellowship. Beginning in September 2011 he will commence a one-year artist diploma program, receiving a full-tuition scholarship to the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University and personal instruction from BSO Music Director Marin Alsop, who actively shapes the program. Mills recently completed a graduate performance diploma from the Peabody Institute. A native of Montana, he pursued undergraduate studies in conducting at Whitman College in Walla Walla, Wash., where he also founded and directed the Divertimento Chamber Orchestra. The BSO-Peabody Conducting Fellowship Program was launched in 2007 in partnership with the League of American Orchestras, which helped the two institutions develop a comprehensive agenda and curriculum and assisted with evaluations of the program during the pilot period.
