In Saturday’s (6/25) Cincinnati Enquirer, Janelle Gelfand writes, “The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra announced on Friday that Robert Treviño will join its conducting staff as associate conductor, beginning Sept. 19. Treviño, 27, a native of Fort Worth, Texas, will conduct the orchestra’s Young People’s Concerts and will assist the conductors of the Cincinnati Symphony, Pops and May Festival. … He has won the 2010 James Conlon Prize for Excellence in Conducting at the Aspen (Colo.) Music Festival and School, an award from the Sir Georg Solti Foundation and other conducting awards. Since making his conducting debut at age 20 in Wuppertal, Germany, Treviño has led many orchestras, including the major orchestras of Cleveland, Philadelphia and Baltimore. Next season, he will return to conduct the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. He is currently a finalist for music director of the East Texas Symphony Orchestra. … Treviño, who plans to move to Cincinnati from his home in Ann Arbor, Mich., said his appointment is ‘the thrill of a lifetime.’ ”
