The Juilliard School has announced several additions to its faculty for the 2011-12 academic year, including orchestra musicians ALAN BAER, tuba, and ANTHONY McGILL, clarinet. Baer has been principal tuba of the New York Philharmonic since 2004, and previously held that position with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, California’s Long Beach Symphony, and the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra. He also serves on the faculties at Bard College Conservatory of Music (Annandale-on-Hudson, N.Y.), Manhattan School of Music, and the Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University (New Brunswick, N.J.); Baer’s previous teaching affiliations include California State University at Long Beach and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. McGill serves as principal clarinet at the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, and was formerly associate principal clarinet in the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. He teaches at Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University in Balitmore, at Mannes College The New School for Music in New York City, and at Bard College Conservatory of Music.
