El Paso (Tex.) Symphony Youth Orchestras has announced the appointment of MARK SCHUPPENER as conductor of its entry-level string ensemble, the El Paso Youth String Philharmonic. Active as a violin soloist, orchestral and chamber musician, conductor, and educator, Schuppener is currently an assistant professor of violin and viola at the University of Texas-El Paso and a member of the El Paso and Las Cruces (N.M.) symphony orchestras. Among his previous teaching affiliations is the University of Michigan, where he earned both a Doctor of Musical Arts and a Master of Music degree. He holds a bachelor’s in music from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Also announced by EPSYO was the promotion of CHRISTOPHER NOEL from conductor of the intermediate-level String Ensemble to conductor of the organization’s intermediate full orchestra, the Youth Symphony; in this capacity he will succeed BENJAMIN VICKERS, who will be relocating to Boston to serve as a Benjamin Zander Fellow at the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra.
